What You'll Find in This Archive

This page is the full index of everything published on Tide Fishing. Our writing focuses on one simple idea: in Australia, the water tells you when to fish, not the calendar. Every article here helps you read a tide chart, a swell forecast or a moon phase table and turn it into a decision about where to stand and when to cast around Sydney and the coast beyond it.

Guides are grouped by topic below. If you are new, start with the tide basics, then move to the section that matches the water you fish most often.

Tides and Tide Charts

Moon Phase and Bite Windows

Swell, Wind and Weather

Beach Fishing Conditions

Estuary Fishing Conditions

Rock Fishing and Safety

Rock fishing is the most dangerous form of angling in Australia. Always check the current swell and warnings before you leave home, and treat any forecast rise in swell as a reason to pick a sheltered alternative.

Planning Your Next Session

  1. Check the tide times for the closest station to your spot and adjust for distance upstream.
  2. Check swell height and period, then wind strength and direction for the same hours.
  3. Note the moon phase to judge whether the tidal range will be large or small.
  4. Pick the location that suits those conditions — not the location you had in mind first.
